“The best way for us to cultivate fearlessness in our daughters and other young women is by example” – Gloria Steinem. Today’s spotlight is on budding artist Kate Johnson, who was fearless when she proposed a new “upgraded” BG firm logo concept to her dad, Bailey & Glasser, LLP partner Nick Johnson.

Kate’s inspiration for the upgrade was the American flag, using red to represent justice and blue for truth. Kate’s favorite girl boss is Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg because RBG had the courage to never take “no” for an answer. When asked what advice she would give her peers about being fearless, Kate said: “don’t worry about what other people think about you because your own opinion of yourself is all that really matters.”

Thank you for being such a wise and fearless inspiration, Kate!

This year’s theme is “Embrace Equity.” Have you ever thought about how equity is actually different than equality? Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. While equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and needs, and allocates the right resources and exact opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome. It is a concept acknowledging our common goal of being recognized and included, and as articulated by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg: “We will all profit from a more diverse, inclusive society, understanding, accommodating, even celebrating our differences, while pulling together for the common good.”

The Pension Rights Center, a nonprofit consumer organization dedicated to protecting and promoting retirement security, was designated the recipient of a $560,000 cy pres award by Bailey & Glasser, LLP.

A cy pres award allows for the distribution of leftover funds from the settlement of a lawsuit to be disbursed to charitable organizations whose mission generally aligns with the purpose of the lawsuit. BG partner Gregory Porter commented that we are “delighted that undisbursed money is going to the Pension Rights Center, which has been working for 47 years to protect retirement security for workers and retirees, particularly for lower and moderate wage earners.” To learn more visit The Pension Rights Center website.
